Herman Bros & Co. fully custom-tailored suiting by appointment in our Sydney showroom that is inspired by and respectful towards the traditional arts of tailoring. There are no “standard blocks” here, as each garment is cut and measured to your individual requirements and styles. That's what custom tailoring is – a perfect representation of you, not a mannequin.
The foundation of our suiting is the creation of a unique "model pattern" for each suit and each customer. We take a blank piece of paper and look at your physical body measurements. We consider how you like the garment fitted and proportioned - a cm here or there can drastically changed the look of a suit. We also take into account very specific individual requirements like the slope of your shoulder, and the pitch of your shoulder noting any slight forward roll you may have. This is not something all custom clothing shops can do, but at Herman Bros & Co. we proudly offer this as it is an integral part of getting a "perfect fit".
For more details on what makes our suiting different, please see our Suit Craftsmanship section.
Then, of course, there's the customisation – this is the fun part. Go crazy and browse the hundreds of fabrics we have available. With the very best fabrics the world has to offer, from venerable houses like Vitale Barberis Canonico who alone have a history of over 350 years, the choice is yours. Prince of Wales, Sharkskins, Twills, Mohairs and Cashmeres are all available in our Clothes and Fabrics section. How you style the suit is also up to you: single- and double-breasted, peak and notch lapels, and different pocketing styles are also available. Traditional belt loops or the more contemporary side strap buckles are also available for our pants.
For more details of the above, please see our Tailoring Process section for the steps involved in the construction of a Herman Bros & Co. custom suit from start to finish.
The gold standard of custom tailoring is the Fully Canvassed Suit. With this option, the suits are made with a floating inner canvas structure which is made of natural fibres like horse hair to offer the ultimate shape and comfort. This is stitched inside the jacket without glues or fusing, and extends for the entire length. This is the standard that the legendary tailors of London's Savile Row are renowned for, and we at Herman Bros & Co. are proud to offer this to our customers.
The Semi-Canvassed option is also available, where the top half of the jacket is made with the same canvas as the Fully Canvassed Suits, but the bottom half is constructed with fusing. This is the "best of both worlds" approach, where the chest area is able to take advantage of the canvas but the bottom half is not, making for a more economical solution.
In either of the above construction methods, you have the option of having the garment Hand Tailored. A true mark of bespoke clotherie is the time and skill at the hands of tailoring craftsman. We offer this option which involves additional hours and hours of careful handwork through the inside and outside pick stitches, as well as other areas in the jacketing and pants. The end result is a work of art
HBC also custom tailor make overcoats - a mainstay for those cold winter months. We make overcoats from wool/cashmere blends which are lightweight yet warm, through to Rain Mac's in Cotton Waterproof fabric that are sure to put a smile on your face even in the pouring rain.
